I'm not sure when Dad met Bill Barry, but I imagine it was in the Post Office. Dad started in the Post Office when he was 16 and retired at 55. During most of my life, we saw them infrequently, but if you look at photos and movies, and at some of their letters, their friendship lasted from the late 20s util both of their deaths in 1974, and 1978 respectively). I remember Dad calling him "sarge" all the time, and I knew they went on vacation to Yellowstone. One of the last times I heard dad talking about Bill Barry, was when he had taken him to lunch (prior to 1974). He told me it was payback for helping him arrange their funerals - dad was THAT good at details - so much so that he kept redundant reminders for brother Tom to look into after dad died, and Tom was left to search out bank accounts, etc...
There is not a lot of personal information about Bill Barry other than the fact he was born in Sewanee, Tennesee on June 9, 1902, and Myra Barry was born on April 7, 1905. They lived on Page Street and when I knew them, they lived on the 1700 block of 22nd Avenue.
