We had not planned this trip initially, but when we started looking at how much time we had, we noticed that there was an extra day in Madrid where we could take a day trip. Because Madrid is in the center of Spain, every point is accessible within a few hours. We were able to find a great tour with a fantastic guide, Raul Orantes.
Here we went to a local castle (Belmonte, Castille-La Mancha, Spain) ; to the town of El Taboso; and then to the famous windmills - all of this is Cervantes (Don Quixote country).
(in the play Man of La Mancha, Don Quixote talks about the great "highway to glory". Sancho respons, "... this highway to glory looks exactly like the road to El Toboso where you can buy chickens cheap."
