Spain was not our intended spot this year. We had originally set ourselves on going to Portugal. Two years ago we had ALSO made preliminary arrangements to go to Spain, but instead went to a family wedding in Ireland. Luckily for us, that was also the time of political unrest in the Catalonia area of Spain (Barcelona being the main city). So instead we went to Ireland and Italy - fantastic trip.
So we started working on tickets etc.., and we had projected going in June, as the bonus ticket we had from British Airlines expired in that month. Low and behold, the ONLY available flights over and back had us being there for one month starting in April. Suddenly, we had two weeks to make all the arrangements. We decided on starting in Madrid and then proceeding to San Sebastian, Barcelona, Malaga, Grenada, Seville, Toledo, and then back to Madrid for the flight back to London Heathrow and home. We took Planes, Trains and Buses; we visited wonderful sites with the unique architecture of a thousand years of mixed Moslem and Catholic rule (with a bit of the Visogoths thrown in). We travelled to La Mancha - the land of Cervantes and Don Quixote, and did a fair bit of sampling the wines and food in each region. The photos here have been distilled down from near 3000 to a workable collection.
I have added links on some of the images so you can also find out more about some of the cities and sights we visited. Enjoy!
