From left: Tom Scanlon, Maurice Murphy, Jim Scanlon
When dad (Maurice Murphy) enlisted in the Marines he was 35. He had tried to get the Post Office to give him a leave of absence, but as they refused he quit and joined the Marines and went through Boot Camp at Camp Pendleton in San Diego. Dad sent letters every day. At one point his mother told the family to tell him to send less. Below are all the letters in random order that I will fix eventually.
(Also, I am only listing some here - a random sampling. Otherwise it would be like 120. When all is done scanning, I will add more)
(Note: APM refers to Alice Seibel Murphy - the P being for Pauline. MTM refers to Maurice Thomas Murphy)
